In one of the many meme-worthy scenes from Avengers: Infinity War, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange looks 14,000,605 times into the future to find every potential scenario in which the Avengers could face Thanos and what would happen. Strange warned Iron Man that there was only one future where the heroes prevail, based on what he saw, a fact that has spawned a slew of fan ideas about what the situation would be. However, have you ever pondered why Strange gazed into the future so many times? Was there a reason for that number? According to Screen Rant, one Redditor believes so.
ArenLuxon posted to Reddit to clarify that Strange was most likely employing a unique blend of characters who had survived Thanos’ war and his snap. Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow, War Machine, Falcon, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, Winter Soldier, Drax, Groot, Nebula, Star-Lord, Rocket, Shuri, Okoye, Gamora, and Vision would all be considered using this formula. In addition, Hawkeye, Captain Marvel, and Ant-Man will appear in Avengers: Endgame. There are a total of 24 heroes in this group. Their destiny are either alive or dying, which means each character has two options.
The theorist then believes Vision to be uncountable in this case, as he only died because Thanos turned back time. This gives us 223 (or 8,388,608) possible combinations. Vision could, however, survive, according to the Redditor, who gives him a one-in-three chance of living. Another 5,592,405 futures would be added, bringing our total to 13,981,013 combinations, just shy of 14,000,605.
If the authenticity of this hypothesis is being questioned due of other characters in the film, such as Loki, the theorist has an answer for that as well. Of course, there is some debate regarding who is a “hero” and who isn’t. But it doesn’t matter who Strange thinks are heroes because those are the futures he’ll be watching, they write. If he doesn’t think someone is important, he might not think about how their life or death will affect the future.
While we’ll probably never know why Strange glimpsed into the future the precise number of times he did, this explanation could be correct. At the very least, it gives fans something to talk about until April 26, when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters.
Infinity War offered how many possibilities?
Superheroes, too, must pay a price from time to time. Doctor Strange gladly offers up the Time Stone in exchange for Iron Man’s life in Avengers: Infinity War. But first, he utilizes the stone’s abilities to travel through time to see how the threat posed by Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet might play out. Only one of the 14,000,605 options, he claims, resulted in a triumph.
But… there had to be a way out of that. Couldn’t Strange have simply prevented Peter Quill from awakening Thanos before Tony Stark and Spidey took off the gauntlet? Maybe, but what if Thanos wasn’t the intended goal of Doctor Strange’s scheme? This narrative hole is explained by a new fan theory that invokes not just Dr. Strange’s cognitive process but also Thanos’ ethics.
According to the idea, only one of those outcomes (14,000,605) is a triumph because, in his opinion, the only plausible conclusion (pun intended) would be for all the stones to be destroyed at the same moment. He understands how much harm a single stone can wreak, and having five distributed over the galaxy would extend the battle against those wielding the stones, possibly leading to a greater event than the Snap itself.
Even if Thanos is beaten, someone else may try to use the stones in the same way. At this stage in the Infinity Saga, it’s pretty well common knowledge across the cosmos that uniting the six Infinity Stones grants the owner essentially infinite power.
So Thanos isn’t Dr. Strange’s foe. It isn’t the Infinity Gauntlet, though. It’s just a bunch of stones. Thanos and the Gauntlet are tools in his eyes, and they will be employed to eliminate the stones in one fell swoop. Doctor Strange must give Thanos the Time Stone in order for this to happen.
In Infinity War, how many options did Dr Strange see?
Doctor Strange: I traveled across time to see different futures. To consider all of the conflict’s possible consequences. Lord of the Stars: What was the total number of people you saw? Doctor Strange: Fourteen million and sixty-five.
In the endgame, why does Doctor Strange appear?
The Brutal Truth It’s difficult to accept a notion like this simply because Tony Stark was the Avengers’ glowing arc reactor heart. However, it is possible that something dreadful will happen to him in the future.
When confronted with the greatest trolley dilemma imaginable, Doctor Strange reasoned that the best solution for the fate of the Earth would be to defeat both Thanos and Tony Stark in a single battle, allowing the Avengers to continue to exist in some form (although damaged).
In Infinity War, Doctor Strange stated that he would not hesitate to let Tony die, but this could change in Endgame. In a deleted scene from the movie, Benedict Cumberbatch portrays Strange’s sad reaction to Tony’s death. He doesn’t seem to have let Tony die only to gain the upper hand. He’s completed the task at hand.
One of the most endearing aspects of Doctor Strange’s persona is his practicality. He’s a doctor, so he understands how to make difficult judgments regarding whether treatment is worth the risks in order to assure survival. He didn’t kill Tony because he believed the Avengers would be better off without him. He did it because, cruel as it may seem, the world would be a better place without him.
Why is Vormir wearing a crimson skull?
Red Skull’s rumored debut in Captain America: The First Avenger sequels turned out to be wishful thinking. The destiny of the Skull was revealed in Avengers: Infinity War, when he met Thanos and Gamora as the custodian of the Soul Stone on the barren planet Vormir.
The Skull’s journey across the MCU was governed by the Infinity Stones. On Earth, he was preoccupied with finding the Tesseract, which houses the Space Stone, and harnessing its great power. When the Skull touched the Space Stone, which had been damaged during the fight with his opponent, it created a wormhole, transferring the villain across space to Vormir. The planet’s name is derived from the comics, however it is located at the center of Celestial existence and houses the Soul Stone in the MCU.
Is Dr. Strange able to predict the future?
Strange was only able to view the future because he was brought back to life after the Hulk’s snap. Sorcerers, as revealed in Doctor Strange, can’t see beyond their own death. That’s why Strange had to go through all 14 million possible possibilities until he identified the one in which the Avengers triumphed.
Did Dr. Strange consider all of the possibilities?
In Avengers: Infinity War, Doctor Strange had to live through and die at the conclusion of all 14,000,605 potential futures in order to locate the one where they won. In Avengers: Infinity War, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) has to live through and die in each of the 14,000,605 conceivable scenarios.
What kind of phone does Doctor Strange have?
In yet another product promotion twist, he utilizes a Chinese smartphone: It’s from Huawei’s Honor division, and the flagship phone costs $399.99.
What did Dr. Strange mean when he said “one finger”?
Doctor Strange holds up one finger near the end of the climactic battle, suggesting they’ve only got one shot. This motivates Tony to make the ultimate sacrifice: stealing all of Thanos’ Infinity Stones and destroying Thanos’ army with a snap of his fingers.
