There is no minimum account balance required to begin trading futures in a margin account with tastyworks. The same is true if you want to use a margin account to increase your capital efficiency with Small Exchange futures.
However, if you use an IRA account, your start-of-day net liquidation for Smalls, CME micro e-mini futures, and CME options on micro e-mini futures must be $5,000, and your standard CME futures contracts and options on futures must be $25,000.
- Any options futures position in the same root symbol as an outright CME futures contract: Margin Requirement 2X CME SPAN
- 125 percent of the overnight minimum for smalls, outright CME futures, and CME micro futures
If you meet the overnight requirements, in addition to the buying power requirements, you’re fine to go whether you’re wanting to trade futures in a margin account or an IRA account.

Tastyworks is appropriate for seasoned stock, options, and futures traders, as well as those looking to improve their skills in these areas. Tastyworks’ trading platform features are tailored to fulfill the demands of all active traders, including a robust collection of derivatives trading instruments. Although novices may find tastyworks intimidating, the trading platform has excellent educational content and research tools. The low costs, on the other hand, do not compensate for the restricted account features and investment options available to the casual trader or passive investor. As a result, tastyworks is well-suited to its target market of active traders, but it is unlikely to appeal to regular investors.

Is it possible for me to trade multiple Emini contracts?
You can theoretically trade as many E-mini contracts as your account balance permits. You can trade more contracts with less money because E-mini contracts are traded on margin ($500/contract). If you have $3,500 in your account, you could theoretically trade seven contracts ($500 multiplied by seven = $3,500). However, we would advise against doing so because you would be putting yourself in grave danger.
