National Australia Bank’s dividend payment record
How many times a year does nab pay dividends?
Australia’s National Australia Bank (ASX: NAB) has just released its half-year results. This morning, the NAB took care of business, as we reported previously. Market reaction to an ASX bank reporting a 94.8 percent increase in cash earnings to $3.34 billion for the six months ending March 31, 2021, is lukewarm. To put things in perspective, we witnessed a new 52-week high for NAB earlier in the week, but as of this writing, the stock is down 3.14 percent to $26.51. In terms of ASX bank performance, it’s the poorest today, while the other three have all lost some value. In addition to that, NAB’s report also included a dividend declaration. It will be of interest to investors who rely on dividends from the ASX banks.
In other words, at current share prices, NAB stock offers a trailing dividend yield of 2.26 percent. That’s based on NAB’s previous two dividend payments for 2020, which have been announced. In contrast to Westpac Banking Corp (ASX: WBC), NAB was able to pay out two dividends in 2013. NAB’s payouts, on the other hand, were a far cry from what investors had come to expect from the bank. In July of last year, the bank paid a fully franked interim dividend of 30 cents per share. In December, the company paid out a last dividend of 30 cents, fully franked, to shareholders.
NAB paid out two dividends of 83 cents per share in 2019. Two lots of 99 cents per share were offered for sale in 2018.
What dates do dividends pay?
In the event of a dividend, all shareholders of the company are notified by a press release; the information is frequently reported by major stock quoting systems for convenient reference. The most important dates to keep an eye out for as an investor are:
- During the declaration process, a record date, or date of record, is established. On that date, all stockholders on record are entitled to receive their dividends.
- The stock begins trading ex-dividend on the ex-date, which is the day before the record date. By purchasing shares on the ex-date, a buyer forfeits their right to the most recent dividend payment.
Company money are deposited with Depository Trust Company on payment day for distribution to shareholders (DTC). The DTC then distributes the cash payments to the various brokerage firms across the world where the company’s shares are held by shareholders.
