City Football Group, the owner of Manchester City, has received a seven-year, $650 million loan in one of the sport’s biggest debt agreements.
A new $1 billion stadium for New York City FC, one of the company’s ten worldwide soccer franchises, will be built using the money provided by Barclays. Currently, that idea is stalled because of a dispute between the Yankees and the city of New York.
According to the Financial Times, CFG has also arranged a $138.2 million revolving credit arrangement with the same finance providers.
This year, City Football Group was valued at $4.8 billion after selling a 10% share to Silver Lake Partners in the company for $500 million. Another 12% is owned by China Media Capital.
- The Abu Dhabi national wealth firm Mubadala, which is managed by Manchester City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak, gave CFG $2 billion last year.
- To participate in the short-lived Super League, Manchester City paid about $5.2 million in fees. Due to the pandemic, Forbes estimated that the club will lose $172 million in 2019-2020.
- Co-op Live, a $495 million indoor music and entertainment venue that will be built close to Manchester City’s stadium, was a joint venture between CFG and Oak View Group in May.

Five Premier League titles have been won by Manchester City under the ownership of Sheikh Mansour, who has invested around $3.5 billion in the club. The estimated worth of Mansour is $22 billion.
