Who makes a great homestay family?

How do you select the student that you introduce to us?
CHN keeps track of a large number of different host families. They tell us about their hobbies, interests, and desired hosting relationships, as well as any dietary limitations they may have. Students and visitors fill out comparable profiles while applying to our programs. We can match the student with a host family for a mutually enjoyable relationship using this information. We provide our guests with access to a diverse group of students thanks to our presence in over 70 countries and long-standing ties with prominent independent schools and school boards. We organize monthly workshops with hosts as part of this support in order to update homestay program standards and improve our joint capacities.
How do I know if homestay is right for me and my family?
Do you have room in your schedule for a student? Even the most confident students value quality time spent with their host family. Are you planning on staying in town for the duration of your student’s stay? Absences lasting more than three days must be approved in advance by CHN.

How are hosts prepared and supported?
When you join our network of host families, we’ll provide you our Host Guide, which outlines the hosting relationship. Every year, we organize a number of workshops and orientation sessions to educate, engage, and solicit feedback from our hosts.
Once you’ve found a match, our local relationship managers will walk you through the hosting process. Our relationship managers will be accessible to provide answers, advice, and support from the moment you receive the first call about a student, through the pre-arrival orientation session and the heartbreaking goodbye.
We also have an emergency response system that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You will always be able to reach someone who can assist you.
What happens if we are uncomfortable with a student, or the student is uncomfortable with us?
Despite the fact that we have connected over 45,000 students with thousands of hosts over the years, if a student or host finds our match wrong, we are happy to arrange a replacement homestay.
We’re also here to help you clear up any misunderstandings if and when they arise: as we often encourage our students, don’t be afraid to ask!
There is no need for you, your student, or us to suffer in silence. If you’re concerned, we’re concerned, too! Some cultures consider it unacceptable to express personal feelings or grievances for fear of losing face; however, this is not the case in Canada or with us!
Please let us know how you’re feeling, whether it’s good or terrible. You may be honest while also being considerate. You don’t have to shatter eggs with a hammer, but saying nothing is just as horrible.
What if I have to cancel?
